The Game Awards 2025 is almost upon us, and it very likely will bring with it a series of announcements and world premieres. It has been heavily speculated that the Sands of Time remake will be making an appearance at this yearโs Game Awards before, but that does not seem to be a possibility anymore.
This is a rather unfortunate turn of events, given how much the game has already been delayed up until this point. That being said, hereโs what we know about the gameโs current state and the series of events that led to this announcement.
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake Is Not Making an Appearance at This Yearโs Game Awards
To the disappointment of many, the heavily delayed and much anticipated Sands of Time remake (from the modern 3D Prince of Persia series) has been confirmed to not making an appearance during TGA 2025.
Replying to a fan account, the official Prince of Persia X account broke the unfortunate news surrounding the Sands of Time remake. This contradicts what was reported a few weeks earlier, and remains quite puzzling.

The game should still be on track to release in the first half of 2026 though, unless things donโt go smoothly. Itโs no secret that the journey to the release of the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake has been a long and perilous one, with the project being delayed years and undergoing multiple iterations.
Many were hoping to finally catch a glimpse of polished, real time gameplay from the often neglected franchise, but that will have to wait, it seems.
When Does the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake Release?
As per Insider Gaming and Tom Henderson, the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake is scheduled to go live on 16 January, 2026. Do note that this date is based on leaks and estimates, and could very well change due to unforeseen delays.
This wouldnโt be the first time that the remake has been delayed either though. The game has since seen multiple delays after its 2021 target, including a moment where the entire game was pulled down and rebuilt from scratch.
With Ubisoft confirming the absence of the game from TGA 2025, it does open up the possibility of a shadow drop, strangely enough.
What to Expect From the Sands of Time Remake
The Sands of Time was the first, proper 3D Prince of Persia game, and quickly grew on to become a trilogy of sorts, followed by Warrior Within and The Two Thrones. The original game is also over 20 years old at this point, and there are a few areas in which the game feels sorely lacking, which the remaster aims to address.
The most important upgrade of them all are in terms of its visuals, which have been revamped entirely and brought in line to modern standards.
The gameplay is also expected to be further refined, and brought closer to that of The Forgotten Sandsโ own.
All things considered, Ubisoft might not want to stray too far away from the core formula of The Sands of Time though, so as to avoid backlash. Which is a good thing, given how strange certain remakes can turn out to be, especially when they gloss over the source material.
